The 8 types of shoes I wear most often. The evolution of my shoe collection, or how to get the maximum out of your wardrobe on a small budget.
1. Total black
I like to put as little effort as possible into my shoes. And if they’re black, it’s all the less I have to do. They go with everything and make any outfit look better! I also like to buy shoes that can be worn for more than just one season. It’s a good investment, and they’re less expensive in the long run too!
2. Black and brown
I like to keep both my formal and casual options when it comes to shoes, so I always try to put together two different pairs. For example, ankle boots are very versatile! You can wear them with jeans or with a skirt.
3. Neutral colors (grey, beige, white)
Whenever using neutral color I like to wear ones with a little hole for a touch of color. I avoid wearing flashy colors because they tend to age much more quickly than darker shoes. A pair of shoes in a neutral color gives your look an instant boost and is perfect for day and night, casual, and smart occasions.
4. Exotic skins: lizard, alligator, snakeskin, ostrich, crocodile.
These materials can make shoes very expensive. But if you find a good quality pair in the right size, it’s worth investing! They’re timeless and go with any outfit. They just need to be neutral enough that they don’t compete with other flashy items of your outfit.
5. Camouflage patterned shoes (for the Jungle Boots, which I do not wear often).
They may be a bit much for some people, so I’m careful when I wear them.
6. Beat-up old sneakers
To wear in the garden or in the house. This type of shoe doesn’t require any effort at all and goes perfectly with my “jeans and a T-shirt” uniform. They’re particularly helpful when I’m in the country and want to go for a walk outside…
7. Kitten heels
I really like wearing high heels. But I only wear them on special occasions because they’re not so comfortable! So when I do decide to wear them, it’s usually because:
a) Someone will see me wearing them (for example, in the city with my friends)
b) I’ll be able to wear them for several hours (for example, at a party).
It’s important not to let yourself be forced into wearing heels even if they’re “in fashion.” Always choose comfort over fashions that might quickly go out of style. You don’t want to regret your decision after wearing them for only an hour!
8. Clarks desert boots in blue or brown
I love these boots because they’re very comfortable! The soles are rubber which makes them perfect for wearing in the city. And besides, they go with everything. They’re perfect for smart-casual looks, but you can also wear them with more relaxed outfits.
I don’t buy shoes that are too expensive because I’m afraid of hurting my feet. The desert boots are less than 100 € and have lasted several years with me!
